Celeste
A precision platformer about climbing a mountain — and confronting the anxiety that lives in your head. Brutally difficult, deeply personal, and one of the most affecting games ever made.
Celeste is one of the rare games that earns emotional weight through its mechanics. Madeline’s struggle to climb Celeste Mountain is a direct metaphor for anxiety and self-doubt — and the game’s assist mode (which lets you reduce difficulty as needed) reinforces its central message that asking for help isn’t failure.
The platforming is exceptional: tight, readable, and endlessly creative. Each chapter introduces new mechanics and builds on them thoughtfully. Death comes often but checkpoints are generous, and the retry loop is so fast you never feel punished.
The optional B-Side and C-Side levels are some of the most challenging content in platforming history — reserved for players who want to test the absolute limits of their skill.
Lena Raine’s soundtrack is beautiful and emotionally precise.
Why PixelPick recommends it: Celeste does more with its theme in 8 hours than most games manage in 80. A genuine masterpiece.
