The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The open-world RPG that set the standard for quest writing. Over 200 hours of content, a morally complex world, and side quests better than most games' main stories.

The Witcher 3 remains the benchmark for open-world RPG quest writing. The side quests — often dismissed as filler in other games — are among the best storytelling in the medium. “Ladies of the Wood,” “Hearts of Stone,” “Cabaret”: these are stories that rival the main quest in complexity and emotional weight.

You play Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter in a world at war. The moral choices are genuinely difficult — not good vs. evil, but two imperfect options with unpredictable consequences. The world is harsh, lived-in, and strangely beautiful.

The two expansion packs, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are each worth the price of a full game. Blood and Wine is essentially a new 40-hour adventure set in the sun-soaked Duchy of Toussaint.

Why PixelPick recommends it: The Complete Edition includes both expansions and regularly goes on sale for under $10. One of the best deals in gaming.
